Climate & Clean Tech Startup Program

With Climate Week Underway, Strategic Communications Firm Launches New Program to Help Climate-Focused Startups Navigate DC DC-Based Comms Firm Moyer Strategies to Help Climate/Clean Tech Startups Looking to Capitalize on Federal Incentives & Advance Favorable Legislation“Knowing How to Communicate With Policymakers and Administration Officials… Has Never Been More Crucial For a Young Company’s Success Or Failure.”

OVERVIEW GRAF
Moyer Strategies is launching a new program within its climate practice area focused specifically on providing strategic communications services to climate and clean energy startups. Building off years of work with green energy, clean tech, and climate-focused clients, including working with the first US national green bank, for former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, for the Sierra Club, and with renewable energy companies, Moyer Strategies is poised to help startups navigate a complex but opportunity-rich Washington, DC, landscape.

“New climate and clean tech companies are launching seemingly every week, due to the scope of the climate challenge and the unprecedented federal incentives available to them. Yet most of these young companies lack a plan for how to communicate with DC decisionmakers, who hold outsized influence over their success or failure,” said Chris Moyer, founder and president of Moyer Strategies. “We understand the many demands that lead startups to prioritize other areas for growth, especially in the face of a complex Washington environment and uncertain political landscape. But as we’ve worked with ambitious and smart leaders of new clean tech companies, we’ve seen the difference that a focus on strategic communications can make.

“We seek to bring our expertise and experience to bear for a range of startups, who can’t afford to lose out on millions of dollars of federal incentives or face a set-back from misguided legislation in Congress,” said Moyer. “We aim to help these companies as they compete for grants and push for legislative language that will give them the tools they need to scale more quickly and meet the urgent demands of the fight against climate change. Knowing how to communicate with policymakers and administration officials and shape the legislative environment has never been more crucial for a young company’s success or failure.”

Largely thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), federal incentives are more abundant than ever for the new companies developing innovative solutions to tackle the climate crisis. Yet too many startups lack the insight and experience to take full advantage of a range of grants, tax incentives and legislative windows – such as the upcoming lame duck session – that could make the difference between accelerated growth or fizzling out. Moyer Strategies’ work with clean energy startups focuses on leveraging communications to deliver messages that will resonate on Capitol Hill, at the White House and across key agencies.

Regardless of the outcome of November’s elections, many of the incentives from the IRA have gained bipartisan support and are poised to continue. With growing demand for clean energy, the urgency of the climate crisis, and rapidly approaching deadlines for meeting state-level clean energy mandates, more startups will need strategic communications guidance to help meet these ambitious goals.

Why work with Moyer Strategies?

Moyer Strategies, a public affairs firm based in Washington, DC, helps clients achieve their most important goals through strategic communications. Members of the team have spent the last 15-plus years working on climate and clean energy issues at the federal, state and city levels; on top-tier presidential and gubernatorial campaigns pushing forward-thinking climate measures; with state attorneys general fighting against harmful federal climate rollbacks in the late 2010s; and with advocacy organizations seeking to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels. Moyer Strategies’ experience includes communicating for former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid about the implementation of more than $80 billion in clean energy programs from 2009’s Recovery and Reinvestment Act; advocating for federal climate legislation ahead of the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022; and delivering strategic communications services to the first national green bank in the United States after it helped the Coalition for Green Capital win a competitive EPA grant worth $5 billion. In the firm’s work with clients, Moyer Strategies focuses on driving a narrative in the press through consistent and timely messaging that breaks through the noise to shape public opinion, influence policymakers and build the profiles of leaders, organizations, and issues.
